christian? >> we have been following develop is on this story this morning. the national security level is still elevated, after terrorist attacks on two different mosques. the gunman was live streaming the shooting at one mosque on social media. a second attack is connected, but they are looking to see if the scene gunman was if the same gunman at both scenes. he promoted white nationalism and anti-immigration views, sing the attack was aimed at encouraging the divide between muslims and those of european ancestry. the alleged government also identified himself as a 20-year- old australian man of european ancestry who came to plan and train for the attack and found what he called a target rich environment. other arm suspects have been held in custody, no word on exactly how those other suspects are involved. one of those in custody has been charged with murder.

he is hours away from a court appearance. the shootings happened at central christ church. the mosques are 3 miles apart. the attacks were carefully planned and coordinated according to police and they also found revised explosive devices inside of a car, one witness said that the gunman had what appeared to be a semi automatic weapon. they say that he was wearing a helmet and body armor and that he shot worshipers at random while they were praying. >> he went inside. some people died. [ indiscernible ] >> some people ran to the back doors to save themselves. >> the australian prime minister also condemning those attacks this morning. the premise are confirmed one of those suspects is in fact an australian citizen. american political leaders also responding, president trump tweeting 49 innocent people

have so sensibly died with some - - they have so senselessly died. gavin newsom tweeted in part no one should have to fear going to their place of worship. the heat that has fueled these horrific and cowardly attacks must be called out. california stands with new zealand and with muslims everywhere. at this point we are standing by for that court appearance and any new develop. we expect that court appearance in the next six hours or so. a lot of development is still coming out of new zealand and we will be taking the follow-up story. >> christian, thank you. and from sensors from san francisco to the east bay, security has been increased. and the council on american islamic resent relations is condemning those attacks. >> i told my children. it was a moment of shock and grief, simply because these people have been mowed down in the mosque in new zealand, in

both mosques, they had done nothing wrong. they had simply gathered to worship. new zealand has heightened the terror alert, describing this as a terrorist attack. we will have much more coverage throughout the morning on this developing story out of new zealand coming up at 7:30 and we will have a live report with more information about increased security at religious places in the bay area. police have arrested a man accused of robbing several convenience stores and gas stations in the last several months. police released surveillance photos of that suspect. an officer arrested robert manson at 3:00 on tuesday morning after spotting him walking. he is believed to be responsible for at least five robberies. he was in possession of items connected to the robberies. a driver was involved in an

overnight deadly hit and run crash. a blue 2006 mitsubishi hit a man and left him unconscious in the road. investigators will try to determine how a fire started on bethel island, completely destroying three homes. the fire was reported before 6:00 on taylor road. firefighters say several propane tanks exploded and fueled those big flames. and they brought in a fire boat to help fight the fire. >> we are surrounded by water, but there is no hydrant here. setting up a water supply operation comes very difficult at times. >> there are no reports of any

injuries. the three homes that earned are a total loss. it is unclear how those fires got started. a lawsuit in the wake of a college admissions bribery scandal. the alleged bribery and fraud they say cheated them out of a fair admissions process. a fair admissions process. thousands of applicants were turned down over the years. the scandal is not determined one girl from her dream. >> it has not determined - - it has not deterred one girl from her dream. >> i want the stench of unfairness to be lifted. >> a spokesperson said the university stands behind the integrity of the commission's process. tmc reports that they will

we've learned some of the last words from the cockpit as a boeing 747 tried to return to the - - the crew audibly wondered what was going on three months three minutes into flight. and the skaters are especially interested into the last moments of the fight, it could be key in determining whether or not there was a key flaw in the boeing 737. the black boxes from this crash are in france being analyzed. it is unclear how long that process will take.

we have an update regarding repair work for the transit center in san francisco. there have not been any more problems following the discovery of the cracks in the steel beams. administrators previously announced that repairs would be completed by june, but there is still no date on when the building will reopen. and san francisco's version of new york's grand central station. part admits fixes will take a lot of time to complete, with a $95 million project that focuses on four busy stations, embarcadero, congaree, powell and civic center, those repairs will take seven years. they have the money to fund the project. administrators say it will take time because of the lack of

licensed, trained, and qualified people to do that work in a hurry. they will be working on this with a single installer and single maintenance system. >> they can get people from other cities to come in and do the work. they can contract this work out. work overtime, get it done. >> the motion - - the measure comes from one approved in 2013. it goes from 1:00 until 4:00, and early saturday morning from 1:00 until 5:00. caltrans is conducting road maintenance and repairs along an 8-mile stretch. >> a new study shows that more than 120,000 people here in the bay area spend at least three hours commuting to work every

single day. the study by apartment list found 3% of the people who live in the south bay are super commuters, that means they spent at least 90 minutes getting to work, and another 90 minutes getting back home. in san francisco, oakland or hayward, it is for .8%. the study found people who live beyond the official bay area have the highest share of super commuters, at 11%. the study found that they earn 20% more than the average american worker, with a commute under 90 minutes. i grew up in livermore, 100 years ago, back then he would never live in livermore and drive all the way to san francisco or the south bay. >> i can't believe 580 at a quarter to five. >> it is noticeably different, the volume of traffic earlier in the morning, the lights used to not turn on in the bay bridge until 6:00, now it is

usually packed, not today, it is a bit of a friday late commute, for commuters. the super commuters, people coming up in the south bay, there are issues at allen rock and san jose, there is a crash at the oregon expressway. and north bend 280 at mclaughlin, there is some debris in the roads. westbound 80 as well, and eastbound at ashby, a two-car collision with down to the shoulder and there is a crash blocking one of the carpool lanes as well. that should extend the drive. highway four in the pittsburgh a point area, it is recovering after earlier crashes this morning, the crash from earlier this morning has been moved out of the way, but there is a lingering backup. and this is about the busiest

the trump administration is expected to announce plans to ease restrictions on oil and gas drilling across western states. restrictions were put in place to detect the sage grouse, which has seen a dramatic decline in population. they are worried about the birds survival being threatened. the new england gas industry says that the protection of the bird is an obstacle to drilling. a woman steyer inspired a - - a woman started a movement that has now spread to the night states and across europe. >> for so long, that politicians and people in power have gotten away with not doing

homeland security bill that gave $1.6 billion for fencing, far below his request. hours after the house noticeably unanimously voted in support of the measure, chuck schumer called for a vote on the measure but was blocked by senator lindsey graham, who asked that the resolution also include calling for the employment of a new special counsel to investigate how the justice department conducted the investigation. chuck schumer declined to approve the amendment, saying he was deeply disappointed in graham for blocking the resolution. and the investigation could be complete in a matter of days. the time now is 7:25. a new crew is on board the international space station after the successful launch of a russian rocket. >> booster, ignition and left off. >> the crew consists of a pair

come together, and pray. such an act that occurs, it does hurt us. >> a large group showed up for morning prayer, they all had heard about what happened in new zealand, they say that a mosque is a place of worship where they should all feel safe. one man told me he thinks a lot of hate spreads online and he wishes tech companies in the bay area would crackdown on and delete people who share or encourage acts of violence on a group based on their religion. in san francisco, police are taking extra measures to make sure that people are safe, they are driving by those locations and they are making extra calls throughout the day. a smoke shop is closed after the owner and others were selling cannabis and other products to children. napa police share these photos last night, officers say people

working there will be charged for selling marijuana and butane honey oil to minors. they hope to send a message that providing that kind of substance to kids will not be tolerated. new information about a man was shot and killed by alameda county sheriff deputies. charles ballard died wednesday afternoon after stealing something from the store, he tried to run over deputies with an eye to be. one of the deputies was dragged for 30 feet and another was trapped between the fleeing suv and a trap a parked car. the deputies opened fire and ballard was killed. ballard had at least 11 felony convictions. there are more signs that a controversial urban shield training program might be coming to an end. that follows tuesday's vote by the county supervisors to make sweeping changes to the urban shield program. it was all created after 911 to

bert is working on a backup computer center to prevent the kind of network failure that

shut down the entire rail system over the weekend. the outage was first discovered saturday morning. power was not fully restored until 11:00. the new backup computer center is expected to be up and running within a couple months. they will start accepting credit or debit. the machine inside the gates only is accepting cash, so you would have to ask permission to leave. the new machines will only accept credit cards to load on the clipper card. not for paper tickets. new machines will be installed next month. city planners met with the public about a proposal to move

highway 50, rerouting that highway behind the casinos and estate line, to create a mainstreet that is more than the to pedestrians, bikes and scooters. supporters say a more attractive mainstreet could increase revenue by $79 million per year. tourists in san francisco set a record last year, it is expected to continue to grow. and the number of visitors rose just over 1%, up to 25.8 million people. spending was up by over 2%, to $10 billion. san francisco airport had a record high 5,720,000,000 passengers in 2018. the tourism bureau says with the newly reopened convention center, the city could get even more visitors this year. >> this friday commute has been a good one. >> it has been pretty good for drivers this morning. especially out in the east bay. one of the issues we are

these forecast high temperatures. today will still be nice, upper 60s and 70s tomorrow, bump that up a little bit. a big change will occur on tuesday. but it looks like rain returns on tuesday, wednesday, maybe even beyond staff. a lot of the forecast and climate models are showing it pretty wet, for southern california, central, and for us. enjoy the weekend, this is the last weekend of winter and it has been a long, cold, wet and snowy winter. change is on the way, but not for now, it is cold as well. unseasonably cold this morning and some of the north and east bay valleys, with some low temperatures near freezing. and near napa, that is correct, not only there, there are others as well. you can go on the peninsula, find 34 in woodside, and along the parks, 35 in redwood city, los altos, 37, fremont is 39,

severe weather across the central part of the country is causing some major issues this morning, flooding is one of the

biggest concerns. this is part of the midwest, and there is no from this week's storm, melting very quickly right now with nowhere to go. in south dakota, they went door to door, and evacuated people that were stuck inside their homes. >> i'm glad that they came, i don't think we would have made it. >> tornadoes also cause damaged damage and at least four states. one of those nearly missed the national weather service office in kentucky. a family of four in denver is safe after they were trapped for one dozen hours in a car, during a blizzard. firefighters have been in touch with the family, they were having a very difficult time trying to find them. josh pulled heard about the rescue attempt on facebook and decided to jump in and help some of the neighbors nearby used tractors to clear the road and eventually they found that car. >> we've got four kids. i would want someone to help me if my family was in that

she donated to the ronald mcdonald house, the tornado relief fund in alabama, and a hurricane florence relief fund. she is also giving money to the simpsonville art center, to show her appreciation to the city where she purchased that winning ticket. her prize she opted to take as a one time payment of $878 million, the largest want to be one as a single price. youtube, facebook and twitter are facing criticism over the mass shooting in new zealand. we are looking at dollars and cents today. >> as we have been reporting, the gunman was live streaming the shooting and the social media platforms could not keep up with the spread of it online. facebook, twitter, and youtube weekly removed the original, but they were still getting reports of versions of it, hours after the attack. facebook stock also dropped when the opening bell rang this morning, on more privacy and data sharing concerns.

there was a shakeup with top management at shakeup at facebook as well. take a look at the markets. the dow jones is down almost a quarter%. down to 25,669. the s&p 500 and the nasdaq have held on to the gains most of the week, s&p 500 at 2814. it is up almost a quarter%. the nasdaq is up more than half a% this morning, 7676. and tesla has unveiled the latest electric car, a midsize suv that is smaller than the current suv. it does look like the model three that is in the front, elon musk expects it to be one of the safest suvs on the market. it will also have improved battery range. >> it took the reins up a fair amount. yes. we expect a truly useful range
